NIGHT IN THE PARADISE

by A. Gankevich, 2024

The ideafor the project was born in 2019, from a photograph I took in thegarden near my studio at night. In the image, I was struck by thespace, the cosmic depth of the autumn trees, which before my eyeswere turning into pixel galaxies of the universe. I was attracted bythis abstraction of paradox.

Themeaning, as if on the surface. In how the crowns of the trees areabstractly geometric and obey their own special, not fractalgeometry, but some kind of anti-geometry. The surface balancesbetween depth and plane, between figurativeness and abstractnon-objectivity. An oxymoron. The anti-geometric image of the starryspace resembles the chaotic image of pixel glare on the sea surface, where everything is reflected in everything, crushing the unity, turning it into multiplicity. Only miracles make sense. This is howthe image of the heavenly cosmic garden of the universe appeared, where all the stars are born and die.

The name"Night in Paradise" came from outside, spontaneously, afterthe war began, far from home. Having lived in Europe for 2 years, myfeelings and my attitude towards my country acquired a certainnostalgic-mystical character. The image of a heavenly night was idealfor the project, it accurately conveyed my personal, and I think ourpublic feeling about what is happening in the world, and in Ukrainein particular.
